NCB Now: Developing a competent, confident workforce

1 min read
At Barnardo's we welcomed the opportunity to be part of the Drug Prevention coalition. We decided to develop two strands of work.

The first was a toolkit, Fit for Purpose?, which has been implemented in the North East, Wales and Northern Ireland, and in other children's charities. It provides a way of thinking about substance misuse work rather than specialist substance misuse services, and assesses the ability of services to respond to children, young people and families affected by substance misuse.

The second strand was Communities of Practice: Supporting Staff Learning and Development, which explores how to effectively share the good practice learned across Barnardo's.

Both strands were designed to achieve better outcomes for children, young people, their parents and carers. We achieved this by supporting the development of a competent, confident workforce that could respond to substance misuse issues.
