NCB Now: Custody transitions study unveiled

1 min read
NCB has published a new free resource examining transitional planning for young people leaving secure settings.

The report, Managing Transitions from Secure Settings, came out of a year-long project, funded by the Department for Children, Schools and Families. It serves as a snapshot of current practice and contains some practical tools and information briefings designed to support reflective practice.

Di Hart, principal officer for youth justice and welfare at NCB and author of the report, uses the image of a canal boat passing through a lock to describe her research into whether young people making the transition from a secure setting receive the same level of support on both sides of the gate. Findings suggests that although smooth transition is achievable, it is not happening consistently enough.
