We know the recession will bite, and there will be a general election, so I have three resolutions to share:
Stay above the fray. In the months before a general election, everything becomes exaggerated. Governments focus more on defending their record and putting over political messages, and less on long-term thinking. Oppositions attack current services, so that they can focus on the difference between their policies and those of the current government. People working directly with children and families can get caught in the cross-fire. But most of it is just sound and fury; once the election is over, whoever is in power will rely on civil servants and researchers to properly analyse different policies. Of course there are real differences between the parties, but they are nothing like as great as they would have us believe. For better or worse, our world won't totally change in June.
