Therefore there has never been a more timely occasion to bring together the sector to discuss the challenges ahead. This year's Young People Now Foundation National Youth Conference, sponsored by the Camelot Foundation, will do just that. The event, which takes place on 21 November at the New Connaught Rooms in London, will bring together youth work practitioners, policymakers and young people from across the UK. Youth minister Beverley Hughes will also return to deliver the keynote speech.
How the youth sector can transform the lives of young people will be another key discussion for the day. A panel of leading thinkers from the youth sector will be debating this question, as well as which resources will be required to make the aims of Youth Matters and Every Child Matters become a reality. How the voluntary sector fits into this agenda will also be discussed. John Bateman, chief executive of UK Youth and a conference panel member, says: "The crucial issue over the next year will be if enough resources are going to be made available for young people and youth work. The contracting out of services will also remain an area of concern, as well as how this is managed and developed."
