National Youth Agency: Valuing young voices and strengthening democracy

1 min read
A report from the National Youth Agency and the Local Government Group explores how councils are supporting young people to participate in society - from shaping services to be delivered differently and helping to make public decisions, through to supporting social action where young people have changed their area for the better.

Evidence in the report, Valuing Young Voices, Strengthening Democracy and the Contribution Made by Youth Engagement, demonstrates how wise investment in youth engagement can bring many benefits to the council, the local area and young people.

The report demonstrates the contribution that youth engagement makes to strengthening democracy and delivering many outcomes that communities and councils seek. It focuses on three aspects of youth engagement - public participation (typically youth forums, surveys and consultations or activities linked to quality assurance), social participation (social action, volunteering, positive activities) and individual participation (as a way of exploring the motivation and benefits for young people).
