National Youth Agency: Seminars will help motivate young people to move into employment

1 min read
A new series of Money Mastery events kicks off next week with full houses in Manchester and Birmingham. These are followed by further events in March and May in Belfast, Cardiff, Middlesbrough, London and Liverpool.

Money Mastery Meets the Benefits Trap is a free one-day coaching seminar for youth workers and other professionals working with young people. It aims to explore the phenomenon often dubbed the "benefits trap" and the frustration that runs alongside this based on the difficulties involved in motivating young people to move into employment if they're only going to be £10 per week better off after 40 hours of work.

The series will also explore how to support second and third generation benefits recipients to develop beliefs that allow them to consider work a viable option rather than a "mug's game" and how to help young people from chaotic backgrounds with little structure in their lives develop the habits necessary for work or education such as timekeeping.
