National Youth Agency: Access - NYA Spotlight falls on provision ofgood spaces

1 min read
The National Youth Agency is calling for specific standards on what should be offered to the young everywhere to contribute to the government's drive to push up quality as set out in Aiming high - the ten-year strategy for young people's leisure-time opportunities, activities and support services.

The call comes in The Agency's latest Spotlight briefing paper, which focuses on "good spaces for young people".

To ensure that all young people have access to good spaces The Agency is also calling for sustained and sufficient investment in workforce and facilities for young people's out of school activity, based on a benchmark of £1 a day for each 13- to 19-year-old.

NYA chief executive Fiona Blacke said: "This will fully implement the excellent vision for young people which government has now articulated."

The briefing also calls for the full empowerment of young people through their full participation in all stages of the decision-making process and further exploration of the potential for private sector investment and partnership in spaces for young people as part of integrated capital strategies.
