1 min read
The Children's Play Council has begun development work towards a new regional play infrastructure that will, subject to a further solicited application, support the Big Lottery Fund's children's play programme.

In September 2005 the council was awarded 169,000 for a projectto lay the foundations for the strategic expansion of children's play inEngland.

Under the programme, local authorities have been allocated funding todevelop free, inclusive play provision. Each will need to develop astrategy to show how the money will be spent.

The council undertook an extensive consultation exercise to inform plansfor the regional support structure that will help local playpartnerships achieve this. The grant from the Big Lottery Fund alsocovers the production of good practice guidance.

Tom Barton, formerly project manager for the Equipe nationalpartnership, has been appointed to manage the work to be undertaken byconsultants Laurence Blackhall Associates, Leisure and the Environmentand Leaping Frogs Forte.
