My own business

If I were in charge of my own business, I would make sure I put all the skills and experience from my time with the Green Team, a 16-week voluntary training programme run by Groundwork Hertfordshire, into practice.

I would make sure that the client was getting exactly what they wanted for a fair amount of money and do a really good job. Hopefully they would tell their friends and family about me and I would get more work.

On the Green Team, I had the opportunity to gain skills and experience in a wide range of landscaping activities such as tree planting, garden maintenance, patio laying, environmental conservation, planting and fencing. At the moment, it's especially important to be motivated and work hard to find work, even if there are some dead ends along the way. A friend of mine went to a job centre in Stevenage and was told the only jobs out there for young people were those in fast food places, which made him feel very demoralised and unmotivated. For me, it's not about making a lot of money - it's about surviving and if I can't get a job once I've finished with the Green Team I will definitely try working for myself.
