If I were in charge of London Transport I would make safety and cutting down antisocial behaviour my priority.

I want to see a greater police presence on different forms of transport and panic buttons installed, especially on the top decks of buses to alert the driver to a problem. They have buttons on trains to alert the driver if anything is wrong, why not on buses?

Antisocial behaviour needs to be addressed and there needs to be much greater respect from passengers to each other and to staff. Bus drivers should be allowed to refuse entry to people who push in or are rude to others.

Another issue that I would address is cycling. It needs to be better promoted and I'd like to see some kind of bike rental scheme, where you can pick up and drop off bikes at points across the city. I recently took part in a Transport for London youth panel on transport issues and many people were in favour of encouraging bike use in the city. We thought it would be good to make it available only for those over the age of 14 and those that took part would have to have had some kind of cycling proficiency training to ensure they were safe on the road.
