At the club, I have completed my bronze and silver Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and started my gold award. I have also gained certificates in first aid, cricket leaders, sports leader level one and a fire safety award. I have represented the club at national level competitions in football, pool and table tennis over the past five years.
A great thing about the club is that everybody gets the same chance to succeed. I have been able to try many things that are not traditionally “girls” things to do and have always been encouraged and supported. I always like to try new challenges and Westminster House is a great place to do this, as the staff always take any opportunity that is offered to the club. This means I have tried some diverse activities like curling and tag rugby.
I now volunteer at WHYC, running sports sessions for younger children. As a result, I was nominated by the club to carry the Olympic Torch last summer. I was also chosen by Coca-Cola and Capital FM’s Help a Capital Child charity. This was very exciting and a day I will never forget.
I am not sure what I want to do when I finish school, but I feel that the things I have achieved at the club so far will help me to progress in whatever field I choose.
