My Life: Katie Theobald, 17, Taunton

I'm at the end of AS Levels and I realise I have no clue what to study at university or if I want to go at all.

Speaking to a careers adviser unearthed a whole host of potential career paths, but I was then advised to simply "pick one and run with it".

To narrow down my options, work experience seemed sensible - but how would I be able to choose work to experience, if I didn't know what work I wanted to do?

I found myself at Prospects. Initially looking at PR experience, but I have also been able to work in other departments within the office, giving me a greater understanding of the various job roles I didn't know existed. I've talked to people to discover what life in an office is really like and how these businessmen and women ended up in their line of work.

This is an invaluable insight into a successful business, and all skills I'm collating at Prospects are transferrable into any line of work that I may pursue in the future.

Work experience has given me a real sense of achievement, I'm developing new skills, and I am also now aware of the attributes I already possess and how useful they will be in a working environment.

Although still unsure where I will end up after completing A Levels, I now feel confident in my own abilities and am reassured that I can cope and thrive in a working environment once I leave education.
