Doing a traineeship has turned out to be the making of me and has not only helped boost my confidence, but has set me up for a better future.

I applied to the City Business Traineeship scheme to do an internship during a summer off while in my final year at Bishop Thomas Grant sixth form.

I wanted to use my holiday to develop business skills, to build my confidence and professional and interpersonal skills, and set myself ahead of my peers.

Little did I know it would result in me winning Trainee of the Year 2014 at the City of London Corporation's City Business Traineeship Awards.

I secured a summer internship in the foreign exchange sales team at UBS, and after 10 weeks I knew it was a firm I wanted to spend more time in.
