Organised by Business in the Community, one of the Prince of Wales’s charities, the Apax-Mosaic Enterprise Challenge provided our group from Southfields Academy with business mentors.
We came top against all the schools competing in the contest in the first rounds – the online game. The top five teams in the online game had to come up with a business idea and present it to the Prince of Wales, Princess Badiya bint El Hassan of Jordan and an audience of business leaders. We came up with a wristband that pupils could use to make cashless payments. The payments could be monitored by the pupils’ parents with a text message sent to their phones.
We were so pleased when we were announced as the winners by ITV newsreader Mary Nightingale. As a prize, we visited the ITN news studios where we read the news with Natasha Kaplinsky. We were also treated to a visit to the House of Lords where we had tea with Lord Noon. Our business idea will hopefully turn into a real business.
The enterprise challenge has made a difference to me – it has given me more confidence and made me a better public speaker. It has also inspired me to set up my own business. I want to be an engineer, but maybe one day I will start my own company.
