My council estate is managed by Hackney Homes, so I wanted to give young
people living there a say in how our estate is looked after. I thought
it would give me something constructive to do with my time after school
and help me gain new skills, as well as the opportunity to meet my
neighbours.

I have monthly meetings and represent young residents' views. I have helped develop community-based projects. I led on a consultation that enabled young people to feed back their concerns and ideas to Hackney Homes. I also created a team of young people who provide activities on the estate to keep residents engaged and reduce antisocial behaviour.
I enjoy being able to empower my peers, give them a voice and promote their issues. This helps them feel more involved with the decision-making processes and encourages them to understand community unity.
After two years, I joined the Hackney Homes Youth Active Residents Group. This represents young residents across the borough and enables them to have their voices heard at board level.
