Muslim Scouts making headway

Twenty-five Muslim Scout groups are now up and running across the UK, according to the latest membership figures from the Scout Association.

These include Scotland's first Muslim Scout group, the 8th Blackford Salaam, which launched last year. The Scout Association has also received requests to set up groups from Muslims in Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen and Fife.

Figures from the Scout Association show a rise in membership in the past year. Some 13,500 young people joined in the past 12 months, bringing the total UK membership to more than 465,000.

Subhan Anwar, 21, a Scout leader at the 8th Blackford Salaam, said: "We're trying to give young people challenges they don't get in education or after-school clubs."
