Uniformed youth groups: Welsh, Muslim and Scouts

Bilal Hussein had never been camping before, even though he lives in South Wales and is only a few miles from some breathtaking scenery.

That was until last week, when the 13-year-old went away to the Gower Peninsula with 1st Cathays al Huda, the first Scout group for young Muslims in Wales, which was officially launched six weeks ago.

"It was wonderful," he says. "We pitched tents and cooked over fires. To be out in the countryside was great."

The Cardiff-based troop is the 10th Muslim Scout group to be formed in the UK and although it has taken seven years to reach that figure, it is expected that by the end of the year the number will have doubled as more and more Muslims turn to Scouting.
