THE SITUATION
Mary has been looking after her grandson for four years since his mother could no longer cope with him. Luke is now eight-years-old and becoming increasingly difficult to handle. His behaviour has deteriorated and he is getting into trouble at school more frequently, which is affecting his marks and his relationship with teachers and other students.
Mary is struggling to control Luke at home, especially as his behaviour can sometimes become violent. She has contacted children's services with concerns that she can no longer handle being Luke's full-time carer without support and has even considered the possibility of Luke being taken into local authority care. Luke's mother is also unwilling to look after Luke full time.
