Concerns over declining mental health among teenagers have prompted the Government to extend the remit of the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service from the age of 16 to 18. In July it announced an extension to the age of 17.
CAMHS will be given a greater focus on children with mental health problems who also have learning difficulties.
It follows research from the Nuffield Foundation that shows that children in their teens in the 1990s were more likely to show a range of difficulties than those in their teens in the 1970s.
