
As part of a package of measures set to be announced by the Prime Minister on Monday in response to last year's Mental Health Taskforce recommendations, it has been reported that Theresa May will unveil plans to ensure schools are better equipped to target and help pupils with mental health problems.
This could include ensuring mental health awareness is incorporated into teacher training and that secondary school curriculums include lessons covering mental health awareness.
Another possible option is to ensure schools link up better with their local Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) teams.
Brian Dow, director of external affairs at the charity Rethink Mental Illness, said May's expected focus on the important role schools can play in addressing mental health problems among young people is welcome.
