Health News: Mental health - New training to aid CAMHS workers

1 min read
The gap in post-registration training in child mental health is to be filled by the roll-out of the first national qualification for multi-agency professionals next month.

The postgraduate diploma in Child and Adolescent Mental Health will be run from universities in each of England's nine government regions.

It will help employers identify a consistent level of knowledge around primary mental healthcare workers - professionals who link different levels of child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS).

Although the qualification was initially designed to meet their needs, some universities - including Salford, Birmingham and City University - are broadening it out to include front-line practitioners in CAMHS and CAMHS-related services.

Students on the course will build knowledge in areas such as how to assess and treat children using different therapies, and how to work with refugee and looked-after children and those involved in child protection.
