What does the job involve?
Child and adolescent mental health services (CAMHS) work with children and young people who are experiencing mental health problems. CAMHS primary mental health workers (PMHWs) provide support and training to frontline professionals such as GPs, teachers, and youth offending teams to help them to identify children and young people with mental health problems. The PMHWs also undertake assessments and provide brief therapeutic support to families and children where there are mild to moderate emotional, behavioural or psychological difficulties. They also offer phone and face-to-face consultation if professionals or families need advice. The workers act as a link between Tier 1 universal services for children and families, and specialist clinical CAMHS.
