Manchester offers staff redundancy

Careers Social Care
Social workers at Manchester Council are among those being offered voluntary redundancy as part of the authority's plans to cut 2,000 jobs.

The council has been forced to make £110m in savings - £60m more than expected - following central government cuts in local authority funding.

Staff aged over 55 who belong to the Local Government Pension Scheme will be offered early retirement and all those under 55 will be offered voluntary redundancy.

Although the offer is open to all staff, the council has vowed to protect essential frontline services such as children's social care.
