Lottery boost for Eden play project

1 min read Youth Work
The Eden Project is to launch a nature-based play project after landing nearly 250,000 of lottery cash.

The Cornwall centre is one of four play projects to receive a slice of more than £780,000 of grants announced by the Big Lottery Fund's Playful Ideas programme today (24 October).

Its project aims to get children playing outdoors and with nature. Jo Elworthy, director of learning at the Eden Project, said the money will fund the creation of play routes within the Eden centre. It will also pay for a portable play unit that will travel the county to help promote outdoor play to children, parents and play workers.

"Play is fantastic fun and it's also serious stuff because it helps create fulfilled people able to contribute to a positive society," said Elworthy. "We're going to create a test-bed for playing in nature, exploring risky play, encouraging playfulness and getting muddy."
