The money for the Big Kidz Playzone will turn a derelict site into aplay area with "three-generational" equipment that can be used bychildren and adults. The Lancashire project hopes to get "the wholefamily to exercise, spend time and play together, regardless ofage".
The money comes from the lottery's 16m Playful Ideas programmefor innovative play projects, which announced grants worth 1.8mfor seven new projects today (9 May).
Other projects landing grants include 34,000 for a NorthYorkshire play area to buy equipment such as a whirlpool column, wherechildren can create whirlpools in a tank of water by turning acrank.
Another project in Sheffield has received money to operate a "play pal"scheme where children swap play ideas with children in South Africa.
