The Cut is a free quarterly newspaper and was put together by a team of young people from ethnic minorities, including some not in education or work.
The paper's first edition came out this week and was distributed through record shops and boutiques. Nendie Pinto-Duschinsky, programme director at project organiser and social enterprise Hardcore Is More Than Music, said contributors wanted The Cut to be as competitive as possible.
"They wanted to make it a proper London paper for young people that is available in mainstream places and is sustainable," she said.
The project is backed with £71,000 from youth media fund Mediabox and has support from the Paddington Development Trust.
