London Youth set to train next generation of youth workers

1 min read Youth Work
London Youth has kickstarted a three-year project to train a new generation of youth workers who will focus on taking action in their communities.

The YouthWorks programme will see 12 young people from across the capital, aged between 16 and 22 and not in education, employment or training, train as youth workers.

The young people will volunteer full time for six months in a youth club that has completed London Youth's quality mark scheme (CYP Now, 5-11 September 2007). They will co-ordinate a youth action project in their club or wider community after recruiting a team of volunteers. After putting together a portfolio of their work they will receive a level 1 foundation in youth work qualification.

The youth action projects can range from a film telling the story of what it is like to be a young person in London, a trip away for the club, or a community event trying to bridge the widening gap between young people and the rest of the community.
