Local Government: Southwark Council gets beacon status

The council's Safer Southwark Partnership includes the Karrot scheme, which works with school children and the police to deliver a programme of rewards and activities.

Other features of the partnership that secured the council beacon status in the crime and disorder category include the largest youth offending team in London and a successful youth arrest referral scheme.

The Government's beacon scheme identifies excellence and innovation in local government. Local authorities are encouraged to apply for beacon status to recognise their achievements.
