Letter: The London Assembly budget

Your report on the London Assembly budget vote is wrong in stating that subsidised travel for under-18s "narrowly escaped being abolished" in our vote (Children Now, 21-27 February). It was not under threat at all. The budget on this had been agreed and, even if all 25 assembly members had voted at that session against the travel scheme, it would still be continued by the Mayor, who has the power to do so whatever votes are taken at the assembly. Also there are no independents at the London Assembly. The parties are Conservative (nine), Labour (seven), Lib Dems (five), Green (two) and One London (two).

Damian Hockney, leader, One London Party.
