Letter: Schools admissions lottery

The National Confederation of Parent Teacher Associations is not in a position to judge the success of Brighton & Hove's school places lottery ballot.

However, we are in a position to see that the wide range of criteriathat parents are now required to understand makes the process veryunclear (Children Now, 7-13 March).

A ballot may be shown to be the fairest process, but how that ballot isorganised will be absolutely key to providing a fair allocation ofschool places.

The confederation knows that most parents feel that all schools shouldhave to use the same set of rules to manage their admissions and thatthis is not yet the case. What parents want is that every local schoolis a good school.
