Letter: Special educational needs

Your education statistics on West Sussex (Children Now, 31 August-6 September) rightly point out Ofsted's praise for the support provided by the council for ethnic minority and Traveller children. However, it does not give the full picture on special educational needs. The inspectors, in their 2001 report, praised the county's special needs strategy, its parent partnership service and the support provided to schools through our specialist teams.

In addition, school-based planning and review meetings, which coverindividual pupil and whole-school special needs issues, were describedas "an imaginative innovation".
