Letter: Internet protection

1 min read
The Internet Watch Foundation welcomes the new Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre (Children Now, 26 April-2 May). It provides a partnership approach to deal with child protection online and we look forward to having this single point of expertise.

It is important to highlight the distinction between the twoorganisations.

Essentially, the Internet Watch Foundation deals with illegal onlinecontent, as we have successfully done for the last 10 years, and the newChild Exploitation and Online Protection Centre deals with illegalbehaviour towards children, such as grooming in chat rooms.

The Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre will also work totrace and rescue the victims of child abuse whilst tracking theoffenders and educating internet users about staying safe online.

The Internet Watch Foundation will continue in its role of takingreports from the public about illegal content - child abuse imagesworldwide as well as criminally obscene content, and content that is anincitement to racial hatred, hosted in the UK.
