Leaving Care Services

I would make sure that all young people have access to the same opportunities as each other without having to face any discrimination.

I would also make sure that all young people have the chance to have their voices heard and the ability to fully and actively participate in the decisions that are being made about them. This includes action planning, which I would make entirely young person-centred and not based on outcomes. Instead, it would focus on the individual's needs, as I think this way they could make full use of the services that are offered to them.

I have recently been involved in a project where a group of young people, including care leavers, assessed five local authority leaving care teams. We received training from Participation in Action to be able to give services recommendations for things they need to improve on. It has been a brilliant experience and the adults have really listened to us and started making the changes they said they would, which makes us feel respected and valued.
