Learning Disabilities: NCH puts focus on funding difficulties

The difficulty of funding projects for children with learning disabilities has been highlighted by charity NCH after it said it could no longer subsidise a project in Cornwall.

The future of the Cornwall Space project, which provides holiday activity schemes for more than 200 children, is now uncertain. Parents, Cornwall social services and Cornwall Healthcare Trust jointly fund the project with the charity.

NCH has asked its partners to provide 40,000. Duncan Craig, NCH South West's deputy director of children's services, said he was hopeful the money would be found.

"Finding funding for children with learning disabilities is difficult. There needs to be a greater resourcing commitment from government as this is often a neglected area," he added.
