Lancashire mosques plan to appoint youth co-ordinators to prevent the alienation of young people.
A member of every mosque in the borough of Pendle will be nominated to engage young people. The role could include fostering understanding between mosques and churches and young people and mosque elders.
Detective Inspector Steve Pemberton, from the Hate Crime and Diversity Unit in the Pennine Division of Lancashire Constabulary, said: "This is an idea that we think is fundamental to community cohesion."
The idea was welcomed by 18-year-old Adnan Sohail, a member of Islamic organisation Minhaj-ul-Quran. Adnan met Home Office minister Hazel Blears last Friday when she visited Burnley.
