Terrorism: Youth parliament questions security

Lambeth MYP Darnell Hari, (formerly known as Hipplewith), 19, was stopped and searched by police on Friday (July 22) outside south London's Stockwell tube station on the same day as a Brazilian man was shot dead by officers.

Darnell was wearing Muslim dress and carrying a rucksack when he was stopped. "I felt discriminated against," he told Blears at the parliament's annual sitting last Saturday.

Blears said counter-terrorism powers were "not about stopping people because they're from a particular faith background".

She added that engagement with young people was one of the main "strands of work" planned by Tony Blair's Muslim task force to tackle Islamic fundamentalism.
