When I was 18 and homeless, I approached Harrow Council Connexions service for help. It changed my life. Three years later I am living in the flat staff helped me find and I am working as a volunteer in the council's youth services department as part of a national V-Talent volunteering programme.

I talk to young people on a daily basis about things like violence and drug abuse, although I make a point of listening rather than talking too much. I know from experience that it is important not to make decisions for them, but to offer guidance, advice and support.

I consider myself lucky that I know what I want. After my year of volunteering and training, I plan to become a youth worker. I hope to inspire other young people to be ambitious and to be hard workers. Most of all I want to be a good role model to my five younger brothers and sister. I hope I inspire them to become whatever they want to be.
