To his north is the City, Europe's financial capital. He's standing outside One London Bridge, an eye-catching office block that used to house accountancy group PricewaterhouseCoopers but is now home to many socially orientated organisations, including School Works, where Goddard is managing director.
Goddard, who joined the organisation in December and was previously schools in the community manager for Brighton & Hove council, is glad he's surrounded by the likes of The Stephen Lawrence Charitable Trust, volunteering charity TimeBank, and the Carnegie Young People Initiative.
He's also enthusiastic about opportunities School Works has to influence young people's attainment by improving learning environments.
The organisation, established four years ago and funded by the Department for Education and Skills, is working with local authorities to help them design new schools to be developed through the Building Schools for the Future programme. "This has got to be the biggest investment in the school infrastructure since the Victorians," he says.
