Interview: A community resource - Rajan Anand, neighbourhoodco-ordinator, London Borough of Brent

You can't please all the people all the time, so the saying goes. But Raj Anand is striving to do just that in his post as neighbourhood co-ordinator for the London Borough of Brent.

As a frontline fighter in the battle to implement the Every ChildMatters agenda, Anand is tasked with working with schools and otherpublic organisations to help deliver services the local community wantsand needs, smoothing out conflicts and finding common ground along theway.

The former primary school teacher shares the task with two otherco-ordinators, Tajinder Nijjar and Simon Topping. Between them, theywork with all the schools in the northwest London borough.

Brent is perhaps best known as the home of Wembley Stadium, but it isalso home to a diverse community, and one of Anand's key aims is to makesure that everyone can use the services that are available. "There's avariety of cultures and people from all walks of life. We have to caterfor the needs of the whole population," he explains.
