Interactive game to give finance advice

Youth Work
Teenagers are being encouraged to throw dog poo as part of a youth charity's bid to teach them about managing finances.

The action is part of Turf War, an online computer game created by YouthNet to get young people to take responsibility for their cash.

Game players must defend their territory by attacking the opposition with weapons such as dog poo and beehives. They must spend their funds wisely to buy the best weapons and balance a budget so they do not end up out of pocket or ammunition. They also have to visit YouthNet's advice website TheSite.org and read money articles to find secret words that will give them extra weapons.

Fiona Dawe, YouthNet's chief executive, said: "Money is an increasingly important issue for young people, but difficult to make interesting. With Turf War we're using a mechanic that is relevant and entertaining, allowing young people to develop this essential life skill."
