Ofsted's Annual Performance Assessment Report on Outcomes 2005 found that the focus on outcomes for young people has been a positive feature of the new self-assessments, enabling a clear emphasis on links between services and achievements.
The strongest of the Every Child Matters outcomes was "being healthy" and the weakest was "achieving economic wellbeing". Frequent areas for improvement in the assessments included support for young offenders and prevention of youth offending and reoffending.
Knowsley was one of 20 authorities cited in the report. Mike Cooper, head of Knowsley Youth Service, said: "'Being healthy' is the strongest outcome; there is good work on issues like smoking cessation and sexual health."
