Each week, nine clowns bring fun and laughter to children at hospitals in England. They begin by entertaining outpatients then, after being briefed by nurses about each child's condition, move on to the wards.

The clowns are trained and paid by the Theodora Children's Trust, which works with 27,000 children each year.

The trust recruits children's entertainers and, over 16 training sessions run in conjunction with King's College, London, transforms them into Theodora clown doctors.
