What it is: A tennis scheme for out-of-schools clubs
Goals: To raise children's participation in sport
Funding: From Nestle
Contact: 4Children, 020 7512 2112, www.4children.org.uk
With Wimbledon fortnight in full swing, and Tim Henman's chances of ever winning the coveted championship growing slimmer by the year, the hunt for future tennis stars is sure to begin in earnest. A scheme run by charity 4Children and the Lawn Tennis Association, with financial backing from confectionery giant Nestle, is boosting participation in the sport and trying to make exercise more fun too.
The Nestle Kids Clubs Tennis Scheme has reached more than 30,000 children since it started five years ago. More than 1,400 member clubs of 4Children are signed up. Staff receive advice on tennis coaching from association coaches, who come into out-of-school clubs.
