As children and young people are responsible for the majority ofdeliberate fires and hoax calls, Merseyside Fire and Rescue Servicedecided to tackle the problem.
However, it has gone beyond keeping children safe and preventing fires,and now has programmes to tackle childhood obesity, anti-socialbehaviour, unemployment and more.
The service's programme gives young people who have been excluded or areat risk of exclusion from mainstream education an opportunity to takepart in a learning experience outside school, and a holiday schemeenables children to participate in a range of activities includingfirefighting, road safety and sport.
