Elandash in Penarth, South Wales is one of the few places in the UK that offers 24-hour educational, social and therapeutic care specifically for children with Asperger syndrome.

The house, which can take up to four children aged from 11 to 13, opened in May last year after children's charity NCH realised there was a gap in provision for children at the higher end of the autistic spectrum.

David Reid, the project's team manager, says: "One of the boys at Elandash came from a school for autistic children. He has an IQ of 140 and couldn't understand why he had been with children who couldn't talk.
