Almost 600 people turned up at Thurrock's civic hall before Christmas to witness a special performance of that perennial children's favourite, Cinderella. But, unlike many other pantomimes, the stars of this show weren't soap actors trying to resurrect their careers - they were children in the care of the local authority.

The cast included 25 looked-after children, with two playing lead roles.

The youngest member was five and the oldest 15.
