Information sharing: Training on child index set for 2008

Training for the 330,000 workers who will use England's national children's index ContactPoint will begin in spring 2008, the Department for Education and Skills confirmed last week.

The department plans to recruit a training company to train the1,000-strong national team that will support local authorities in usingthe database. Local authorities will be expected to oversee their owntraining, although the DfES will create various training materials. Thenational ContactPoint team includes local authority trainers who willhelp councils teach their staff how to use the system.

All local authorities are expected to be using the system by the end of2008.
