Childcare staff in eight areas of England will test new training on working with other children's professionals.

The Integrated Practice training is being developed by 4Children and theNational Children's Bureau in a two-year project funded by the EsmeeFairbairn Foundation (Children Now, 17-23 May 2006).

It is aimed at staff in the private, voluntary and community sectors notalready involved in children's centres and extended schools.

Childminders, nursery nurses, playworkers and teachers are among thoseinvolved in trials in North Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset,Milton Keynes, North East Lincolnshire, Sheffield, Windsor andMaidenhead, Sandwell and Derby.

The training was devised following research that gathered views frommore than 1,000 practitioners and revealed many were confused aboutintegrated working. Some said they had no idea what it meant.
