In practice: Prudential 4 Youth

Mission: To incorporate young people's ideas into the security of shopping centres

Funding: 20,000 per project from Prudential's PRUPIM real estate arm

Norman Lloyd, national programme manager for Prudential 4 Youth at Crime Concern, says this allows solutions to be tailored to young people's needs. "Young people can identify issues in small groups and come up with solutions to those problems from a young person's perspective," he says.

One scheme developed by young people in the West Orchards shopping centre in Coventry is TXT Zone. This allows shoppers to text a number if they feel threatened to call security.
