1 min read
A national network to encourage high-quality early years services launched last week.

Children's minister Beverley Hughes announced the Quality ImprovementNetwork, billing it as a successor to the Investors in Childrenscheme.

The network will bring together childcare providers, local authoritiesand other organisations to share ideas for effective work and to supportformal quality improvement processes. The National Children's Bureauwill manage the network.

Sue Owen, director of the early childhood unit at the NationalChildren's Bureau, said: "When the Government decided to drop Investorsin Children, it was felt we needed to keep up the pressure on qualityimprovement."

The network is aimed at those working in quality assurance rather thanfrontline workers, but Owen said its work should inform practice acrossEngland. A key method for achieving this is the standards the network isdeveloping.
